One hundred percent (100%) of The Thrift Shop’s year-end distributions are invested back into the vital programs of The Home for Little Wanderers. The Home delivers services throughout the community, integrating efforts to provide holistic care and support based on each child’s distinct needs. Our dedicated child welfare professionals – including clinicians, social workers, psychiatrists and teachers – help over 15,000 diverse youngsters and their families each year, enabling permanent, positive change. Significant resources are dedicated to our Workforce Learning and Development Department which provides support and training to our staff.

The mission of The Home for Little Wanderers is to ensure the healthy behavioral, emotional, social and educational development and physical well-being of children and families living in at-risk circumstances. A private or public agency usually under local government jurisdiction, responsible for assuring the delivery of community based mental health, mental retardation, substance abuse and/or behavioral health services to individuals with those disabilities. We partner with state and private service organizations, medical providers, court systems, and other community agencies as well as immediate and extended families to ensure that all aspects of clients’ needs are addressed.

The technology enhancements and nursing expertise that will be available in Year 1 will result in time saving efficiencies and better access to services as well as better care coordination with ACOs and pediatric primary care providers. The ultimate outcome from these efficiencies won’t be limited to time savings, but that it will significantly reduce the amount of time cases stay open due to stronger client engagement. In the spirit of the Wraparound philosophy, up to date technology utilization will make it exponentially easier for a family to manage their own provider team, thus limiting the need for an ICC. The Trainer/Coach will help our programs address goals around communication, workflows and documentation. For over 200 years, The Home for Little Wanderers has helped build stable lives and hopeful tomorrows for vulnerable children and their families. Our 25+ community-based and residential programs serve thousands of at-risk youths from birth to age 26.

Many of these children have experienced abuse, neglect, trauma, or a disrupted family life. As the oldest child welfare agency in America, we provide them with safe surroundings, permanent loving relationships, and a secure path toward a better, brighter future. Several programs for young adults ages who have aged out of the foster care system or who would otherwise be homeless.

CSA staff are currently receiving training on documentation techniques. The completion of standardized assessments and quality improvement tools are also included on our development plans. Multiple tracking strategies have been developed to assist our staff in monitoring the successful completion of these tools.

Children who need assistance or are at risk of needing court involvement (Child Requiring Assistance-CRA) can be assessed by an FRC clinician to develop a Family Support Plan to address the child’s and the family’s needs. In addition to assisting families, the FRCs support the children of those families that may have behavioral issues and need additional supports. Adoption, intensive foster care and consulting services aimed at connecting children and youth with caring responsible adults who will be a permanent presence in the child’s or youth’s life. One of the oldest of its kind in the city, the Thrift Shop has been in business for over 90 years. During that time, the shop has supported many local charitable organizations, including The Home, and provided them with generous financial contributions. As of May 1, 2000, The Home became the sole agency to benefit from the Thrift Shop, receiving 100% of its proceeds. Regardless of a child’s age or stage of life, The Home helps secure their emotional, social, educational and physical well-being.
Each of these programs provides transitional housing and supportive services intended to help these youth obtain the life skills they need in order to live independently and achieve their housing, employment and educational goals. Family Partners help families navigate the child-serving system and use their lived experience as caregivers to partner with other caregivers to help achieve their goals. Provide individual and behavior support and intervention as trained, including the use of TCI appropriate physical restraint as necessary. School Liaisons help families with truancy, absenteeism, special education and behavioral issues. The Thrift Shop is also the perfect place to take your gently used items.
